When the thank you is followed by a period, it lands squarely. That’s because thank you is actually a sentence with the implied subject of I or we. When we say, Thank you to a person, we are really saying, I thank you. This is strong stuff.
Thanking people is possibly the most important thing we do. As we approach Thanksgiving, let’s remember not to blur the impact of our acknowledgments by slurring them into a long sentence. If you want to thank someone, write Thank you. or Thank you for your help. With a period.
